 . When I install AOL it asks me if I want to
make it the default Internet program. What should I say.
 . If you have or may want to have any other ISP
you should answer no. Once AOL takes over your internet access it may disable
any other service and it is very difficult to change so that your other service
will work again.
. How can I use Internet Explorer or Netscape with my AOL account?
. Start AOL as normal and then minimize
it. Open IE or Netscape and it will connect to the Internet through AOL.
. How can I get my AOL mail in Netscape,
Outlook or Outlook Express?
. To do this
add a mail account and when you get to the Server Type select IMAP. The
incoming server is imap.aol.com and the outgoing server is smtp.aol.com.
After the account is set up you need to make a few modifications.
In the Servers window put a check next to "My server requires
authentication." Then click apply. Now click the Advanced Tab,
and In the Outgoing mail (SMTP): field, change the
number that displays to 587. Click Apply. Then under
IMAP tab UNCHECK "Store folders on IMAP Server" and click Apply, then
OK.
You can also
get your mail from any browser by going to aol.com and clicking on the mail
button. Enter your username and password and you will see your mail.
. How do I cancel my AOL account?
. The only way to cancel your AOL account
is to call them. Call 800 827-6364. Say: “Cancellation.” and wait for someone to
assist you. Be polite but firm or they will attempt to convince you to
stay interminably.
. Is there any way to remove those
annoying pop up screens that appear every time I start AOL?
. AOL makes it possible but not easy to
eliminate these screens. When you are logged on go to Settings and select
Preferences. Click on the Marketing button. Find the Pop Up screens button and
click it. Click Continue and select No Screens. Then click Okay. Click Cancel.
Now close the Marketing Preferences and then close Preferences.
. I would like to have
broadband but still keep my AOL account. How do I do this?
. Sign up for broadband from whatever
carrier you want. They will give you a new email account but you can pretty much
ignore it (check occasionally to be sure there are no important messages from
the carrier). Then contact AOL and change your service to AOL for broadband. They currently
offer a free account for broadband users.. You can continue logging in to AOL
through the AOL software you have or use any browser and go to AOL.com. If you
wish to continue with the AOL software you need to change the settings to
reflect that you are using broadband instead of dialing up. Be aware that if you
change to the free service you will no longer be able to use dial-up to connect
to AOL nor will you be able to call technical support. For more information on
