However many of these services may be unnecessary for the average user to have running and they may provide avenues for attackers to get at your PC. This site is a very thorough discussion of the various services and gives suggestions of which ones to disable.  

Protect your e-mail address on your website using a free coded version from Enkoder. This online utility creates a java script which will produce your e-mail but which doesn't actually store your email address on your site where it can be grabbed by a bot and used for spamming. 

Secunia Software Inspector will check all versions of the software on your computer for security issues.
